North Shore Synagogue offers many opportunities for adults to continue their Jewish education. There are many special programs during the year. We also run regular programs and classes throughout the year.
Classes for Every Interest
North Shore Synagogue runs programs throughout the year for every interest.
Our wonderful clergy teach single and recurring classes on various topics. On top of that, many of North Shore Synagogue groups sponsors events throughout the year including lectures, performances, movies, day trips, book clubs and discussion groups. Subscribe to our newsletter to learn about events throughout the year.
Weekly Torah Study
Every Saturday throughout the year, join our community of learners as we study the Torah and develop a deeper understanding of Judaism. Study is interactive and is usually led by a member of our clergy. No prior study or knowledge of Hebrew is required.
Whether you attend Saturday morning or not, why not receive the Union for Reform Judaism’s Ten Minutes of Torah? It’s a great way to learn about topics of Jewish interest. Sign up for Ten Minutes of Torah here.
Lunch Study
Torah for Today: Discover and Discuss with Rabbi Shalhevet
Rabbi Jaimee Shalhevet teaches text study on various subjects throughout the year. No prior knowledge of Torah or Hebrew is needed to participate.
Various Wednesdays throughout the year at 11:30 a.m. Consult the calendar for specific dates.
Adult B’nai Mitzvah and Confirmation
North Shore Synagogue runs learning programs for adults that never had a Bat or Bar Mitzvah – whether they converted or did not have the opportunity when they were younger. In addition to learning about Jewish rituals, holidays and customs, participants learn to read prayers in Hebrew. They also make new friends and connections over the two year program. Classes are taught by the clergy and experienced teachers. The program culminates in a beautiful and meaningful B’nai Mitzvah service and celebration with your classmates, family and friends.
Certain years, we run an Adult Confirmation class which provides an opportunity to explore Jewish ethics, mitzvot and customs in more depth. Confirmation classes are open to the entire community, even if you do not wish to participate in the entire program.
Institute for Adult Jewish Studies
North Shore Synagogue participates in the Institute for Adult Jewish Studies which runs a wide array of classes taught by clergy and other teachers. Information about programs, schedules, fees and registration can be found at their website, www.iajs.org.
Classes are held at nearby synagogues, including NSS, during the fall and spring. For more information, contact Carole Wolfner at 516-349-7616. See the brochure here.
