J.tel is North Shore Synagogue’s innovative, nationally recognized teen program. Each week our teens in grade 8-12 come together for dinner and participate in a program written and led by J.tel’s teen board and under the guidance of Rabbi Jaimee Shalhevet and Religious School Principal Jacquelynn Golub. Additionally, J.tel will embark on excursions many times throughout the year. You can register online for J.tel!
As a dues paying member of J.tel, all teens are automatically members of NFTY. NFTY is Reform Judaism’s North American youth movement. NFTY-NAR (New York Area Region) holds events approximately 8 times per year and provides social, religious, and service programming opportunities for teens throughout Long Island, Westchester and New York City.
Are you looking for a place to hang out with other Jewish teens? A place to challenge your mind? A place to talk with other teens about relevant issues?
J.tel can do that.
Every Wednesday, 6:00-8:30 pm, gather together with other 8th-12th graders for an evening of living, being, doing, and playing Jewish. Each week, J.tel has its own theme, and the topics are all about you. J.tel nights are created by teens, for teens – with the guidance and teaching of our Clergy and Religious School Principal.
Want to help fix the world?
Write to your elected officials about equal rights, take action to do something about the opioid crisis on Long Island, and collect coats to keep people warm.
Want to exercise your mind?
Discover what Judaism has to say about sports, superheroes, ethics, politics, and social media in weekly programs and chuggim (electives).
Want to celebrate your Judaism your way?
Improve your Jewish cooking skills, compete in the annual latke making competition, and dance the night away to Israeli music.
Want to spend time with friends and make some new ones too?
Head to Syosset lanes to show off your bowling skills, watch others play with your food at a hibachi restaurant, or spend the night talking and playing air hockey and ping pong.
New this year! Confirmation will be once a month on Wednesday nights, just before J.tel. Come together with our clergy to see Judaism as you’ve never seen it before. What does Judaism have to do with your life? With how you make your decisions? With the world we live in – from social media and social justice? These are the topics we will grapple with as a group. At the end of the year, on the Holiday of Shavuot, our confirmands will plan and lead their very own special service.
